Glass Roof Cabins, Northern Lights and Reindeer at the Window

Annika Hallwaß – All Nordics

There’s something particularly special about visiting a property before the winter season begins. The anticipation of the first snowfall, the preparations for the months ahead and the excitement of seeing the Northern Lights return to the Arctic skies.

I recently had the opportunity to spend a night at Northern Lights Ranch in Köngäs, Finnish Lapland, exploring the accommodation, new facilities and everything this beautiful property has to offer.

At All Nordics, visiting the properties we recommend is one of my favourite parts of the job. It’s so important to experience them first hand, understand the different accommodation options and discover those little details that can make a holiday particularly memorable for your clients.

Exploring the Cabins and Accommodation

One of the first things I wanted to see was the accommodation. No matter which cabin category you choose, the essence of every room is the same: motorised beds strategically angled beneath sweeping glass windows to maximise your chances of spotting the Northern Lights right from under the covers.

I started by taking a peek at the Standard Cabins, which deliver that exact magical experience. Moving up through the room types, the Superiors give you a little extra room, with available space and amenities scaling up alongside the categories. For an added touch of luxury, all Deluxe Cabins and upward categories feature a private outdoor hot tub, while Deluxe Plus and Deluxe Prime offer broader layouts for larger parties alongside enhanced privacy. The Deluxe Prime Cabins sit at the very pinnacle of seclusion: positioned along the resort’s edge with all windows facing outward into the quiet forest, completely away from neighbouring cabins.

The crown jewel of the ranch is the Sky View Ultimate Cabin, which comfortably sleeps four guests and includes both a private sauna and outdoor hot tub.

For families, I would warmly recommend the Double Cabin, which was fully renovated in summer 2026. Outfitted with four motorized beds, it accommodates up to six guests and features its own private outdoor hot tub and sauna, offering a spacious, genuinely luxurious retreat for the whole family.

During my visit, I stayed in a Deluxe Cabin, which offered generous space for a solo traveler alongside plenty of room to comfortably host a family. Across the board – including my own room, every cabin comes equipped with sleek, modern bathrooms featuring under floor heating and walk-in showers.

The Ranch’s Wellness Area and Winter Preparations

As a sauna lover myself, I was really keen on seeing the ranch’s wellness area, particularly as wellbeing experiences are becoming an increasingly important part of our clients’ Nordic holidays.

The facilities include a sauna, outdoor hot tub and even a cold tub for cooling off after the sauna as well as opportunities to relax in the peaceful Arctic surroundings. On the grounds, although a short walk from the wellness area, there’s also a very well equipped gym, which was great to see.

Outside, work was underway preparing the ice skating rink for the coming winter. With the snow expected to arrive soon, there was a real sense of excitement about the season ahead.

In my experience, clients particularly appreciate having these facilities available at the ranch, giving them the opportunity to enjoy some quieter time between their Arctic adventures.

Wonderful Vegan Food and an Evening Under the Northern Lights

Dinner was another highlight of my stay.

The restaurant is wonderfully spacious, with beautiful timber beams, a warming fireplace, atmospheric lighting and a warm, welcoming interior. It’s a lovely setting to return to after a day exploring Lapland.

I was treated to some incredible vegan food, beautifully presented and full of flavour. Experiencing the food firsthand is always so reassuring, especially when matching clients with specific dietary needs to the right property. Plus, I love picking up new culinary ideas on my travels; this time, I discovered an amazing vegan chèvre that I took straight home with me!

But the night had one final highlight in store!

Later on, as I was unwinding in my cabin’s private outdoor hot tub, the Northern Lights began to dance right above me. Relaxing in the warm water while watching the green lights drift across the Arctic sky was an unforgettable way to end the day. But what excited me most was seeing other guests spill out of their cabins to witness it, it’s moments like those that truly reignite my passion for what I do.

To give your clients an extra advantage, we can even set them up with a Northern Lights alert app during their stay. It notifies guests the moment the Aurora becomes visible, and having tested it myself, I can confirm it really works!

Of course, the Northern Lights can never be guaranteed, but evenings like this capture the pure magic of Finnish Lapland.

Breakfast with Company

The following morning started with a fantastic breakfast.

There was a lovely buffet with plenty of choice, including freshly squeezed juices (one from a local supplier in Levi who picked the berries in summer), yogurts, bread, and a delicious selection of warm breakfast dishes.

It’s always good to see the quality and variety of the food offered, particularly for clients who enjoy taking their time over breakfast before heading out for the day.

As a vegan, the staff took great care of me and served me some separate breakfast items right to my table, including oat yogurt, some pickled veggies, that delicious vegan chèvre again along with some sprouts and cucumber. And, of course, there was loads of tea and coffee available!

While eating my delicious breakfast, I got to watch the ranch’s own reindeer enjoy their own breakfast right outside the restaurant window, so even if you’re staying at the ranch alone, you will have company during the meals.

The People Who Make the Place

Above all, it was the people who truly defined the atmosphere of Northern Lights Ranch. I had the pleasure of spending time with the reception and reservations team, as well as enjoying long conversations with both the restaurant manager and the head chef.

Everyone I spoke with shared a genuine passion for the property – with several team members having been there since the very beginning. They explained in detail how dedicated they are to delivering tailored, personalized service and working closely with handpicked, small-scale local suppliers to convey that exact authentic feel. When checking out, I even had a delightful exchange with the reception manager about knitting!

For me, it’s always the people who shape a place, and that was certainly true here; paired with the exquisite food, local suppliers, and contemporary, comfortable cabins, the team makes this property an absolute standout.

Why I’d Recommend Northern Lights Ranch for Your Clients

After spending time exploring the accommodation, enjoying the facilities and experiencing the food and surroundings, I came away really impressed with Northern Lights Ranch.

I can see it working particularly well for couples looking for a romantic Northern Lights escape, families wanting comfortable accommodation and winter activities, or clients who appreciate wellness facilities alongside their Arctic adventures.

The glass roof cabins are a particular highlight, and the combination of excellent dining, relaxing facilities and the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights makes this a wonderful addition to a Finnish Lapland itinerary.

For me, it’s these personal visits that make such a difference. Being able to tell our travel partners exactly what a property feels like, what the rooms are like and which experiences their clients will appreciate helps us create better itineraries.

If you’re planning a Finnish Lapland holiday for your clients, I’d be delighted to help you include Northern Lights Ranch in their itinerary.
