There is nothing quite like experiencing a destination for yourself, and our latest All Nordics team visit to Gothenburg in Sweden gave us the perfect opportunity to explore one of the city’s most popular attractions, Liseberg Theme Park, alongside a stay at the wonderfully eccentric Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel.
As Nordic travel specialists, spending time exploring the hotels, attractions and experiences we recommend is an important part of what we do. It gives our team first-hand knowledge of what makes a destination special and how it can work for different travellers, from families looking for an exciting city break to groups wanting something a little different.
And Liseberg certainly provided plenty of entertainment!
A Visit to Liseberg Theme Park in Gothenburg
Located in the heart of Gothenburg, Liseberg is one of Scandinavia’s best known amusement parks and has been entertaining visitors for more than a century.
With a fantastic mixture of roller coasters, traditional fairground attractions, family rides, restaurants and seasonal events, the park offers something for almost every age group.
For our team, it was a great opportunity to experience the atmosphere of Liseberg for ourselves, surrounded by the sounds of the rides, the excitement of visitors and the colourful attractions throughout the park.
One of the highlights was discovering the grand carousel, a beautifully traditional attraction that brings a little nostalgia to the theme park experience. With its decorative horses and classic fairground styling, it is a wonderful contrast to the modern roller coasters and high speed attractions elsewhere in Liseberg.
It is this combination of traditional entertainment and modern thrills that makes Liseberg such an appealing destination for families, couples and groups visiting Gothenburg.
Staying at the Eccentric Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel
Our accommodation for the visit was the extraordinary Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel, conveniently located beside the theme park.
And extraordinary really is the right word!
This is certainly not your conventional city hotel. From the moment you enter, there is something interesting to discover, with unusual decorations, colourful interiors, extravagant furnishings and unexpected features throughout the building.
Inspired by a fictional eighteenth century traveller and her collection of extraordinary objects from around the world, the hotel has been designed to encourage curiosity and a sense of adventure.
One of its most memorable features is the remarkable slide connecting the upper level to the lobby, while a historic carousel inside the hotel adds another wonderfully unexpected element.
The hotel has 457 rooms, including spacious family accommodation designed for larger groups, making it particularly appealing for families travelling with children.
There is plenty of character throughout the property, but also the practical comforts and facilities needed for a relaxing stay after an energetic day exploring Liseberg.
For the All Nordics team, it was fascinating to see how a hotel can become such an important part of the overall holiday experience rather than simply somewhere to sleep.
Why Gothenburg Is a Great Destination for Families
While Liseberg is undoubtedly a major attraction, Gothenburg itself has plenty to offer visitors.
Sweden’s second largest city combines excellent restaurants, shopping, museums and waterfront experiences with easy access to the beautiful West Swedish coast.
Families can combine a visit to Liseberg with exploring the city’s attractions, enjoying its café culture or heading towards the coast for a completely different side of Sweden.
Liseberg also hosts seasonal celebrations, including Halloween and Christmas, giving visitors different reasons to return throughout the year.
For travel advisors looking to introduce clients to something beyond the traditional Scandinavian city break, Gothenburg offers an appealing combination of entertainment, culture and family friendly accommodation.
First-Hand Experiences Make All the Difference
Our visit to Liseberg and Grand Curiosa Hotel was a brilliant opportunity for the All Nordics team to enjoy some time together while learning more about the experiences available to travellers visiting West Sweden.
These visits are incredibly valuable, helping us understand the details that matter when recommending destinations and accommodation to our travel trade partners.
From the excitement of the theme park to the quirky design of Grand Curiosa Hotel, this was a memorable experience that demonstrated just how much Gothenburg has to offer.
And it is certainly a destination we look forward to sharing with our travel partners and their clients.
