A Hidden Luxury Retreat in the Swedish Countryside
By Els Verhaest – All Nordics
One of Hello Sunnanhed’s most striking architectural features is its expansive floor-to-ceiling glass wall, which opens to create a seamless connection between the beautifully designed interior and the surrounding Swedish countryside. Flooding the space with natural light, it frames uninterrupted views of the forests and landscape beyond, bringing the outdoors in and creating a wonderful sense of space and tranquillity.
Our team’s recent visit to Hello Sunnanhed revealed it to be a rather special place to recommend to our travel partners.
There are some properties that really need to be experienced to appreciate what makes them so different, and Hello Sunnanhed is certainly one of them.
Our team recently had the pleasure of visiting this beautiful boutique barn in Dalarna, Sweden, with Annika and Els exploring the property first, then Jolien enjoyed visiting the area in the following week. All three were impressed by its striking architecture, peaceful surroundings and thoughtful attention to detail.
Located a few hours north of Stockholm, surrounded by countryside, forests and lakes, Hello Sunnanhed offers something I think your guests will increasingly appreciate: time together, complete privacy and the freedom to enjoy the Swedish countryside at their own pace.
A 150 Year Old Barn with Extraordinary Architecture
From the outside, Hello Sunnanhed retains the character of a traditional Swedish timber barn. But step inside and you discover an incredible transformation.
The 150 year old building has been thoughtfully converted into a contemporary Nordic retreat, with soaring ceilings, beautiful natural timber, spacious living areas and huge windows looking out towards the surrounding countryside.
My favourite feature has to be the enormous eight metre high window in the main living area.
The entire window rotates open, completely transforming the space and allowing the fresh countryside air and sounds of nature to become part of the room.
It’s a remarkable piece of architecture, and I can picture your clients sitting here with their morning coffee, watching the changing light, and cows (slow TV) across the fields or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
The interiors are equally impressive, with two open space bedrooms that are closed off with a door, lovely natural materials and a particularly beautiful bathroom featuring a freestanding copper bathtub overlooking the countryside.
The enormous kitchen also caught our attention. With its high ceilings, generous worktops and beautiful dining space, it feels designed for spending time together, whether preparing breakfast or gathering for a leisurely evening meal, there is a private chef creating the most delicious meals from local produce. He can also deliver ingredients that you can create a chef worthy meal from, with easy instructions!
One Property, One Private Experience
What makes Hello Sunnanhed particularly interesting for our travel partners is its exclusivity.
The property welcomes just one party at a time, meaning your guests have the entire barn to themselves.
I think this makes it a wonderful choice for couples looking for a romantic escape, families wanting quality time together or a small group of friends celebrating a special occasion.
There are no other visitors to consider, no busy shared spaces and no fixed daily programme. Instead, each stay can be shaped around what your clients enjoy most.
For travellers who have already experienced traditional luxury hotels, this offers something refreshingly different.
Wonderful Food and a Connection to Nature
Food is another important part of the experience, and we enjoyed some lovely dishes during our visit.
Hello Sunnanhed places an emphasis on local ingredients and authentic Swedish flavours, with private chef experiences available for clients who enjoy discovering a destination through its food.
I can particularly see the appeal of arranging an evening meal prepared by a private nature chef, perhaps using seasonal ingredients gathered from the surrounding landscape.
And the experiences don’t need to end at the dining table.
Your clients might choose a privately guided forest walk, learning about local wildlife, recognising animal tracks and discovering the plants and ingredients that grow in the Swedish countryside.
Foraging, canoeing on nearby lakes and outdoor dining can all become part of a carefully planned stay.
Equally, some clients may prefer to spend their time reading, enjoying the countryside views or relaxing with a glass of wine as the afternoon turns into evening.
That’s really the beauty of this property. There’s no pressure to fill every hour.
Why I Would Recommend Hello Sunnanhed to Your Guests
For me, Hello Sunnanhed is particularly well suited to guests looking for privacy, interesting architecture, excellent food and meaningful experiences in nature.
It would work beautifully as part of a longer Swedish itinerary, perhaps combined with a few days discovering Stockholm before travelling north into the countryside.
What I loved most was how relaxed everything felt. The wonderful open spaces, beautiful views and thoughtfully designed interiors create somewhere you immediately want to spend time.
Having visited for a few days after Els and Annika , I feel we can confidently recommend Hello Sunnanhed to our travel partners and explain exactly what makes it so special.
If you’re creating a bespoke Swedish itinerary for clients who appreciate privacy, distinctive accommodation and authentic experiences, I’d be delighted to help you include Hello Sunnanhed in their travels.
